Reflection on mock interview.

Reflection on mock interview.

I was very confident during my interview with my tutor. I felt it went really well and my tutor said she was pleased with my work, and this gave me a big boost in my confidence and my art work.

 My strengths,

·      There was no trouble looking her in the eye what so ever, which normally I would have a big issue with. I had an answer for every question with no hesitation, as I knew why I’d put the pictures on I did, and why I had displayed them how I did.

My weaknesses,

·      My weaknesses was at one point I had to get up from my chair and collect work I had forgotten to bring with me, I had also forgotten to print my CV earlier in the day so I should have thought about what I needed before I went to be interviewed.

I could have improved my entire interview by being more prepared! I should also use more formal languages, I also tend to talk to much so I should cut down what I’m saying but add more detail and enthusiasm

Evaluation on unit 5

Evaluation

This unit has involved a lot of writing, and researching. It has been really useful to me, as I have learned new computer skills and how to make a blog. We are making our own portfolio, the unit has covered a lot of interview techniques, good and bad points including how to sit and speak.
Within this unit we have learned new computer techniques (working on blogs) we have also covered making our own portfolios. Deciding and discussing good and bad interview points. Now I have the ability to go in to an interview and speak my mind about the work I have done and be confident when I’m doing it.

The thing that has helped me most within this unit is making the blog. The blog has helped me a lot in my preparation for my portfolio, as it had some work from home that I had done and some work from my sketchbook, so this made my blog a lot stronger and showed that I have done work outside of college. Also the interview techniques helped me too. I know what I should do and what I shouldn’t.

Understanding and preparing a portfolio during this unit was difficult at the beginning because I had never done a portfolio before, or even ever heard the word. Now that I understand what a portfolio is, I can now see how it can really help me in the future if I keep adding to it. You can put all your own work on, and put as much of it on as you want. For me I tend to put my best work on my blog, as I feel it would look a little messy and unorganized if I had all of my bad drawing on. If you explain why/how/when about your photos whilst you are uploading them, it saves you a lot of explaining when it comes to the interview, My opinion now is so much better than my first. I really like the idea of having a portfolio because it can really get you in to places you want.

When our tutor told us about the unit and having to make a portfolio, I was really worried about it because I didn’t know how to make one. After making a blog instead of a papered portfolio, I found it really interesting and helpful. I could put my work in to sections easily and categorise them the way I wanted, so my home -work was easy to find and not mixed in with my college work. So then people who viewed my blog could see where my college work was, and where my work from home was. It’s much simpler. It would be very difficult to find what you’re looking for if all of the work was on one page. Making a blog is now fairly easy, and it looks very well presented. Although we made a blog, I still don’t fully understand how to make a traditional portfolio, so learning this would be interesting to know too.

IPad art!

This is a new design from working on "iPad art"
We wanted to see if it was easy enough to draw like David Hockney, this was how my drawing turned out. As you can see it is not as easy as it seems.

Portfolio review

Unit 5 – Building and art and design portfolio

Why did the graphics tutor say all work was mounted on white card?

-It makes all of the graphic work look clean and not messy like an art sketchbook is.

How did the student’s present 3D work in their portfolio?

-They had the outline of the work on one piece of paper and then they will take a picture of the 3D design itself and bring that in.

How did the students present the drawn work, can you use the materials used to?

The students scanned there own pictures on to the computer and then added any writing to it they needed

How did they mount the work?

They were mounted on to a piece of white card, which was stuck on with spray mount not prit stick.

How much do you think an average portfolio costs?

The portfolio its self can cost up to £100+! It costs £5 for each print.

Why is it important to be clear about the unit title when explaining about the work?

The university, know what units that the students have been studying and they will ask you, to see if you are aware of what unit it is.

Can you give a brief description of the work you have seen today?

It was pictures that had been made on the computer or scanned on to them. (graphics)

Explain any ideas and thoughts you may have  on how the work has been presented which you could develop in your own ideas?

The work was layed out and put into different categories of units. This made the presentation look great.

Explain what the strengths and weaknesses are of the portfolio..

STRENTGH- presented in different categories makes it look better.
WEAKNESS- People who don’t have pride in their work, or have no annotation.

Other than final design work what else was shown in the portfolio?

All the pictures of making a design are put together, and it makes the work look more interesting and exiting.

Why are idea sheets important?

They are important because it makes it look more interesting and it can help you more to get on to a course.

Why didn’t the students put their sketch book in?

Most of the work is on the computer, and it looks a lot more clean if it is on sheets of paper.

Purpose of a portfolio

Purpose of a portfolio

A portfolio promotes your personality and your thoughts; it shows what level you are working on just by looking at the portfolio. The main purpose of a portfolio is to help you get in to an art school, or, maybe even a university. It shows your creative journey and personality- showing a person who you are through art, your thought and your interests all in one place, its like the interviewers will be reading you through a book of art. It has to be memorable, showing ideas that you have come up with yourself.    Make it different and something they may not have seen before,

A portfolio can help you go on to higher-level courses, the portfolio should be YOU. It shows your talent and skill towards art… When your taking in your portfolio it is like a small exhibition. A portfolio can help you through an interview and can show your passion through your work.

A portfolio needs to be a list of your ideas, like your making a visual diary about yourself, and make it like documentation. You have to show an  expression of your own ideas, It can also be a  record in what you have achieved. A organized portfolio can help you make more of an effort with the interview, and by making yourself look presentable you can be in a good chance with getting in to what you want to do. The clients will be looking for a well presented portfolio and thing in it that they think are interesting.
